Apple Store in Beijing weeks before 2008 Olympics begin; six months earlier I imagined Beijing and Shanghai and other Chinese cities besides Hong Kong wanted an Apple Store; Driven to Distraction by Neil Postman of NYU
I miss having an Apple Store in China. I could help
bring one here. I like the corporate Apple stores, but
New York and the US have independent Apple dealers
with great added value service, so maybe I can find an
independent store here that lives up to some of my
expectations. I would love to see the new ultra-light
Mac laptop. I think it’s called MacBook Air. Funny.
It’s like the “Air Jordan” basketball shoes dedicated
the great Michael Jordan.
On a bus I saw a television screen with a variety
(comedy, music, dance, etc. show playing). Was it a
DVD or was it live TV? I would guess that it is a DVD,
but I’m not sure. Flat screen TV screens are seen
outside elevators in hospitals here and in places that
don’t look posh. Remember to read Neil Postman (famous
NYU prof.) Driven to Distraction book (what is the
exact title?); there are other books about how people
have too much entertainment that distracts them from
the more urgent issues of politics, economics, human
relations, and culture
